the gebla story

ABOUT US

Ġebla started because we love climbing. And we wanted to give more people the opportunity to try it out. For those who know us, you’ll remember the indoor gym – the first commercial bouldering gym in Malta… where many will say they started climbing. Where we all had really, really good time for a few years! It was a chapter we are super proud of.

But things move on, and we’ve gone back to our first love. Real rock. Teaching. Guiding. Taking people out into nature, onto the beautiful limestone the Maltese Islands have to offer.

Today, Ġebla is a fully outdoor operation. Nothing artificial. 100% real rock and coaching that comes from real experience. We do what we are good at, which is listening to people, understanding what they’re looking for and taking them out to get it. Finding the perfect crags for that one off experience, or the best routes to take beginners from the start all the way through to independent sport climbers.

Chris is better at some things, Carly is better at others. He loves to get into the technical details; gear, performance, multipitch guiding and abseiling. She is all about coaching, perfecting technique and helping people overcome fear – which, let’s be honest – we all feel in good measure when we start to lead!

What we both love is to share climbing, the incredible buzz and the beauty of the experience with anyone willing to tie in and give it a go. And to be the ones to take people to spots which make you see these islands differently, and that make your heart sing and your smile bigger than it’s ever been – what a job!
